ESOL Supplemental Material
Study packages to support your lessons or to provide additional help to students
Study packages are designed to assist students in content specific areas of ESOL. They can be included in a curriculum as a virtual language lab or as homework assignments. Tutors can use them for lesson plans. The study plans are easy to follow and are very thorough. There is no preparation for the teacher and students find SpokenSkills very easy to use.
The pronunciation study packages begin with students recording a reading passage that incorporates the sound(s) to be studied. A study plan detailing the step by step lessons is assigned to the students on SpokenSKills. Students can work at their own pace and even download the lessons to their mp3 players. Upon completion of all the steps, students will record the initial passage and both student and teacher will assess improvement.
In addition to pronunciation, other comprehensive study packages are available that include: the study of numbers, grammar and listening comprehension. Below are the study plans currently offered.
Every study package includes at least 8 practice exercises (for students only) and 4 assessments. Assessments are uploaded by the student and submitted for review. Either the teacher can assess the student's work or a trained instructor can be hired (see option 2 below) which includes complete management of the class as well as feedback from a native speaker. Option 3 is the most economical. It consists of practice pages only, but almost all of the exercises and activities can be incorporated in class. The class activities section on the main page of Spoken Skills are samples of practice pages.
Further explanation of the study packages is on the ENGLISH PACKAGES FOR STUDENTS page.
